Specializing in custom-cake design, chocolates and pastry work
MiraBella Confections originated from the passionate minds and hearts of Alexander Lovelorn and Kenneth Stephens. Both Ken and Alex were tired of working for other people. Ken has his Masters Degree in Social Work and practiced individual and group counseling. Alex worked as a manager for a big box store, and is currently working at Spectrum Health in the Emergency department.
Now, Ken is the confectionery artist and Alex the business manager and computer guru for MiraBella Confections. Ken's confectionery skills are self taught. Also, Ken and Alex both love working with chocolate. Alex loves making his luscious raspberry-filled dark chocolates and Ken enjoys creating wonderful truffles and chocolate displays. If you're lucky, once in a while you'll even catch Alex baking a pie or two. Alex also makes the absolute best soup you will ever eat!
No matter the hurdles and challenges, they are on the road toward a new and exciting adventure. They hope not only to be successful in a traditional business sense, but to create a business that shares joy and happiness with those less fortunate. They hope to remind others of the importance of kindness and a helping hand. It is what makes life worth living!
In case you're wondering, the name MiraBella originated from Alex and
Ken's two cats. Ken's cat, who has passed away, was named Bella. The name comes from a Russian musical instrument called the balalaika which is played in the movie Dr. Zhivago. Alex's cat, Mira Delenn, was named after the talented actress Mira Furlan. She played Delenn on the television series Babylon 5. Alex adores both his cat and Mira Furlan and anything Babylon 5! Mira (the cat) passed away on June 24, 2008.
They are both deep in our hearts, and very much missed.
Alex and Ken wish to thank all those who have been such good friends and positive inspirations in their lives. A special thanks to all those who participated in editing this web site; tasting our most recent creations, and helping in many ways!
